And the Krishnamurthy family....... My heart sends them love and peace at this time. I remember them all, and especially Mari. She had a true and kind heart and spirit. She embodied a bold and just spirit in a way that brought in everyone. I remember her with you and all the girls in Westport. Love.
I so love reading and LEARNING from from your newletters. :-) Thank you. It is so interesting to hear/see/feel your perspective. Keep soaking it all up. See how/if your perspectives and insights change over time. And when you are back in the states (or wherever you are during your lifetime) always seek out the Okinawan diaspora. You will find them! :-)
And it's an interesting observation that most of the professors working at Meio are not Okinawan. :-( (Something to watch for in other places and in other ways....) I think one of the things that is so important for Okinawa and the future is to grow and promote from within.
And your car.... so awesome! Have fun!!! :-) Love you!
Hey Alexandra. What a wonderful update on your adventure of a lifetime, or at least the adventure of your twenties. There will be many more of them to come!
Of course, this particular newsletter is bittersweet. I know that Nana wrote you a note vis-à-vis Mari’s passing. There isn't much to say beyond the articulations to date, but clearly Mari celebrated, respected and admired your achievements to date in a loving way, and you have the enormous good fortune of her having contacted you about them so recently.
Vroom, vroom. A new-used sky-blue mini-Suzuki. I have fond memories of left-street driving in HK, the UK and Ireland, especially an incident in Hong Kong when I very nearly caused my own demise plus the death of a wonderful 14-year-old student placed unwisely by his parents under my tutelage in would be a grandfatherly anecote of limited interest, but at the time it was of enormous interest to the boy accompanying me in the car. Suffice it to say that we are both standing on the green side of the fairway rather than looking at the grass roots from below.
In any case, keep those news bulletins coming! They are most fascinating and well worth the read but more importantly, keep soaking in the experiences. They will sustain you for a very long time! Love, Papa
Yesterday, about mid-day at work, I checked my email because I thought of your weekly newsletters, and it seemed like one was due! I was happy last night when it arrived and distracted me from all the election news. I LOVE your car, it looks perfect, and will be a wonderful addition facilitating even more adventuring! I too was so saddened and shocked about news of Mari. I remember her very fondly and send safe-keeping to the girls and Ananth... Love, Sasa
